Trying to have it all

Hey GRL,

Retired Laker and the reason you yell, "Kobe," every time you throw something at a trash can, is now an Oscar winner. Looks like some people can have it all.

Last week, we talked a bit about the combine (aka the job fair for NFL hopefuls). There were winners and losers throughout the weekend as players tried to impress scouts. However, no one impressed quite like Central Florida one- handed linebacker Shaquem Griffin, whose hand was amputated at age 4 due to a rare birth condition.

Swooping in with a late invite to the combine, Griffin wowed everyone with the fastest 40-yard dash by a linebacker ever (clocking in at 4.38 seconds) and 20 reps on the bench press using a prosthetic arm (his original goal was 6 reps).  The jury is still out on his NFL fate, but needless to say – Griffin has set a new standard for can’t stop, won’t stop.

CBB | Swing and a Mich

The Big 10 Tournament was this past weekend and I honestly cannot with college basketball this year. Recap: the winner of a conference tournament gets an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Michigan State (MSU) was favored to win it all, but this is college ball, so no one is safe.

The No. 15 ranked Michigan toppled MSU this weekend, and went on to defeat No. 8 Purdue Boilermakers, 75-66, to win the Big 10 Tournament. With this win, Michigan jumps to No.7 in the AP Top 25, and becomes the first repeat Big 10 champs, since Ohio State in 2011.

Don’t count MSU out just yet. Despite losing the tournament, MSU has been one of the top teams this season and are still sitting pretty at No. 2. The NCAA tournament is just around the corner, so get prepped and refreshed on how this tournament works.

  CBB | Secret Stuff

Looks like UNC alum, Michael Jordan’s secret stuff wasn’t enough, as the No.5 Duke Blue Devils defeated the No.9 UNC Tar Heels, 74-64. With 17 minutes left, it looked like another Duke loss, as they trailed by 13 points, but a 3 -pointer by Marvin Bagley III shifted the momentum, as he led the Blue Devils to a victory. He finished the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
With this win, Duke has been seeded at No. 2 for the ACC Tournament. With less than a week before the NCAA tournament bracket is set, every win is instrumental in seeding. Long story short, if Duke wins the ACC Tournament this week, they could come in at a higher seed. More deets on seeding here.

CBB | ACC Conference Tournament (3/6 - 12:00 PM): I’m going to be honest with you – March IS college basketball (thus the name March Madness) so that’ll be dominating our news cycle. Other conference tournaments start this week, but the real star is the ACC tournament starting today.

Why’s that? You have the No. 1 ranked UVA, potentially facing historic powerhouses such as Duke and UNC. Last year, Duke won the ACC Tournament and an autmatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Let's see what hapens this year!
